We are excited to announce that Briley Penner will be joining BCA as our new Varsity Swimming Coach! Briley brings a wealth of experience and passion for the sport, and we’re confident he will be a great addition to our athletics program. 

Coach Briley has been coaching swimming for over a decade, currently serving as the Aquatics Director and Assistant Swim Team Coach with the Alamance County Community YMCA and YBAC Hurricanes. Coach Briley began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach with the Supra Swim Team in Uganda, East Africa. He oversaw the training of swimmers of various nationalities, including Uganda, Rwanda, the Netherlands, Britain, and the United States. While in Uganda, Coach Briley also had the opportunity to serve as the Head Turn Judge at the 2014 CANA Zone 3/4 Championship, which saw swimmers in attendance representing multiple Eastern and Southern African nations, after being trained as a FINA Swim Meet Official by two of the 2012 London Olympic Swimming Referees and Starters. 

He has worked with swimmers who have received local, regional, and national success. In 2016, Coach Briley led the Forsyth Home Educators Women's Swim Team to their 2nd state championship, with multiple swimmers breaking team records. Most recently, Coach Briley was selected to the coaching staff of the 2023 and 2024 North Carolina Age Long Course Zones Team, to represent the state of North Carolina at the US Southern Zone Age Group Swimming Championships and to work with some of the state's top upcoming swimmers.

Outside of swimming, Coach Briley holds a Masters in Divinity from Carolina University (formerly Piedmont International University). He has been married to his wife, Livy for 7 years and is an active member of Citizen's Church in Kernersville, where he serves as the Youth Director. Coach Briley enjoys reading a good book and cheering for the Oregon Ducks.
